Saving money just got easier

If you use public transit — including travel by bus, subway, commuter train and ferry — and buy certain passes or electronic payment cards, you are eligible for the tax credit for public transit. It may be as simple as saving your expired passes for when you file your next tax return. If family members also use certain passes or electronic payment cards to travel by public transit, you can choose to claim the credit for yourself, your spouse or common-law partner and for children under 19 years of age. You'll not only receive the tax credit, but you will have saved hundreds of dollars in fuel bills plus reduced wear and tear on your vehicle.

Cleaner air for all Canadians

Every 10-kilometre trip we take creates on average 2.8 kilograms in greenhouse gas emissions. Total emissions per driver can add up quickly. The result is air pollution which affects our environment as well as the economy.

Making your community healthier

Using public transit not only keeps our air cleaner, but it also helps keep people healthy. Without public transit, air quality in our urban areas would suffer, affecting our health, especially for children, the elderly and people with respiratory problems. Illnesses like asthma and cardiovascular diseases are among the leading causes of hospitalization in Canada and can be triggered by air pollution.
